The BID Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Its mission is to be a catalyst for revitalization of the Business Districts and a resource for small businesses throughout San Diego. Programs and projects funded by the BID Foundation enhance the physical, social, and economic environment of 16 Business Improvement Districts in San Diego and the businesses that make up those Districts. It was created as a means for donors to financially support the activities and promotional events of the San Diego’s Business Improvement Districts and small and mid-sized businesses throughout the San Diego region.
Since it was established in 1997, the BID Foundation has assisted many of the neighborhood Business Improvement Districts and small businesses throughout San Diego. The BID Foundation has a bright future with opportunities that can make a difference in the economic climate for the small and mid-sized businesses throughout San Diego region.
Recently the BID Foundation has, through a grant from the City of San Diego’s Small Business Enhancement Program, financially assisted seven “Micro-Districts” with their projects and programs. Through another grant from San Diego Gas & Electric, the BID Foundation marketed the small business assistance programs offered by the utility. The BID Foundation successfully connected a number of small businesses to these programs which reduce the cost of energy use or assist in the purchase of energy reducing equipment.
The BID Foundation also supported directly the Business Improvement District Council through the purchase of new special event equipment. Through a grant from San Diego County and other sources, funding was made available for the purchase of new chairs, tables and pop-up canopies for their Special Event Equipment Program.
